Kanchanaburi is the largest provvince of West Thailand and third largest province of the whole country.Only a 2.5-hour drive away from Bangkok,a beautiful area consisting of mountainous landscapes,topical forests and a rich variety of fauna and flora can be found.Kanchanaburi is eespecially well-known for the two main rivers passing through the province.the River Kwai Yai and the River Kwai Noi,and the province's history regarding World WarII.The Bridge over the River Kwai.During World WarII this bridge was built by Prisoners of War from America,England,Australia,the Netherlands and New Zealand and by many Asian slave laborers,all under the regin of Japan.The Bridge over the River Kwai is part of the Death Railway,also known as the Thailand-Burma Railway.Due to the cruel circumstances thousands of people lost their lives during the construction.It is an interesting tourist attraction to visit,you can walk over the bridge and there is still a small tourist traning running as well.Moreover,a few interesting museums,also related to WorldWarII and the Death Railway,can be found here.The interactive Thailand-Burma Railway Museum is located near the kanchanaburi War Cemetery,another interesting place to visit.The Museum provides an exhibition of the Death Railway's history reguarding the construction,its geography.how it was to live in the POW camps,the deaths.the operation and the end of the railway.The Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum.established by the Australian Government.consists of information regarding the Hellfire Pass' origin and general information regarding World WarII.A collection of photographs,data and equipment used fruing the construction can be found here.While walking the nature trail and thinking about what happened during World WarII.you will be left speechless.
